Join the Democracy Center for a screening of the award-winning short documentary, Unseen Territories, that highlights fourteen artists who examine and reimagine the American flag through powerful, personal perspectives. Through personal flag-making, ephemeral interventions, and collective performance, the artists confront colonial iconography and its enduring imprint on public space. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Sydney Galindo, the film’s director, and Jesus Orozco, an artist featured in the film, about their processes and intentions for the film.
Following the panel discussion, guests are invited to participate in a community workshop where they can create their own interpretation of the American flag inspired by the ideas and styles explored in the film. Connect, reflect, and express your creativity in a welcoming community space—no artistic experience needed! Pizza and supplies included.
